What is a reasonable price

May 8, 2009

When you are planning a wedding prices quickly add up. Therefore the prices that wedding photographers charge are a big concern for many brides. What they don’t want is to spend so little money that they will only get a wedding photographer with little experience who won’t make lovely wedding photos. On the other hand they don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for pretty wedding photographs as there are many other things to pay too. As most of us don’t plan weddings on a regular basis many brides don’t have any idea what a reasonable wedding photographer price would be. However, for setting a budget being able to approximate prices is crucial.

Different things can affect the prices that wedding photographers charge which means that different criteria will increase or decrease the price for the photographs you want to have taken, developed and delivered at your wedding. Therefore, it is important to ask the photographer questions about the prices of different things before booking him or her. Sometimes the wedding photographer price will not include everything and you should definitely find out what is contained in the package before hand.

Different pricing methods

Generally, there are two different pricing methods that are used to determine the price of wedding photography. With the first method the bride and groom pick a specific wedding portrait package that includes different styles and types of photographs. There is a set price for this package that includes a photography session and the development of the photographs afterwards. In case additional photos are needed they can be ordered as extras. This method allows the bridal couple to determine the exact costs of the wedding costs before the wedding which allows for a more accurate wedding budget.

The second commonly used method for wedding photography pricing involves paying a set price for the photography session and choosing afterwards which photos will be developed. This method is cost effective if you only choose selected photographs, but it can get very expensive if you want to order many pictures, for example for giving them to friends and family after the wedding. A cheap wedding photographer might use this priding method and charge a low session rate to convince you to book him and will then set high prices for developing the pictures in order to make money. This is why it is crucial to become clear beforehand what is included in the price and what isn’t. The best way of finding out is to have a meeting with the wedding photographer to discuss all the details.
